First Ski Lesson

This weekend was all about skiing. On Saturday we hit the trail at Highlands Nordic so BL could try try out his x-country gear.  He managed to stay in the tracks for about 1.5 km.

Then on Sunday morning BL had his first ski lesson at Blue Mountain. His handlers are more into cross-country skiing but want him to try a bit of everything and see what sticks (hopefully it will be x-country skiing).

Last week I brought the pair of hand-me-down skis he used once last year to a shop to have them adjusted for larger boots. The techs took one look at them and said that they could not legally work on them because they were so old. Luckily, they have a 1/2 back program where they sell used skis and you get 1/2 back on trading them in at the end of the season.

BL gets fitted for a purple cape and gets snapped in.

Of course, he's first up the "magic carpet" with the instructor.

We were very curious to see how they were going to herd a group of toddler non-skiers down a hill without having them end up caught in the snow fence or bouncing off each other. They simply formed a line of instructors down the hill and sent one kid down at a time. They just slid down to the next instructor that would "catch" them if necessary and then point them at the next one.

BL caught on fast and had a lot of fun.

  1. Excellent. Brings back memories of learning to ski in Quebec in the early 70s. The T-bars were always torture for me because I was small and the big T-bars sometimes would lift me right of the ground! Oy. JD
