The last time we were in Ottawa it was about skating on the Rideau, this time we found out who built it.
(Warning - historical content ahead.)
BL climbs over the remains of the foundation of Lieutenant-Colonel John By's house near Parliament Hill. John By was a British military engineer who lived there for 6 years starting in 1826 while supervising the construction of the Rideau Canal. The people working on the canal lived in a settlement named after the Colonel called Bytown - this town was eventually renamed to Ottawa.
