Into the Wild - First Camping Experience

I had 2 big promises to BL to deliver this year:

1. Build a treehouse
2. Go camping

For selfish reasons, these were both left until the fall - no bugs, cooler temperature, ...

On a cool fall weekend, we finally packed up our tent, sleeping bags, and some food and ventured into the wild. I didn't want BL's first camping experience to be in a campground surrounded by partying teenagers (that will come later). Fortunately for us, something resembling the "wild" can be found within a 15 minute drive from Creemore. There are plenty of conservation forests that the Bruce trail meanders through. On a hike last summer I noticed that there were plenty of clearings in the forest where a tent could be set up for camping, so that's where we went. Not sure whether it is exactly legal to set up camp there, but who is going to complain, the deer?

We parked, hiked in a few km, and set up camp. We weren't the first people to have set up for the night, we managed to find a nice, clean, flat spot with a nearby fire pit.

We travelled light, just enough high calorie food to keep our energy levels up - Doritos, hot dogs, and a few beers for dad. 

It was a cool night (8 celsius), so the fire was entirely necessary.

Once the sun went down, BL experienced the complete darkness that you get when you are away from any roads, streetlights and buildings. Anything outside of the small circle around the fire was completely dark. This prompted him to suggest an early bedtime. He slept like a log, I was a bit sore the next morning from the cold, hard ground.

The next morning, after another hike, we broke camp and went back to Creemore for breakfast.
