Ski Race Season Finale

Today was BL's last day of his first season with the Jozo Weider Ski Racing club at Blue Mountain. Even though he is not an aggressive racer, his skiing has improved a lot and he's a great time on the hill this winter.

Today was the U10 (Under 10) crew's third and last race of the season, and the club championship. In his first race of the year - the first of his life - he managed to get down the slalom course in about 1 minute and 40 seconds. In his second race, this was reduced by about 20 seconds to 1 minute 20 seconds.  He almost didn't make his first of 2 runs. Usually BL is the last to get gold, but for some reason his feet froze in the -15 temperature so he had to come in for a quick foot-warming while his team went up the chair. He made it up the chair just in time to take his place as the 18th starter. He had a nice clean first run, taking another 18 seconds off of his previous best time.

He pulled out the stops on his second and final run of the season. Here he is crossing the line - note the time clock,  he passes over the line a hair over 1 minute. Next year we'll break that 60 second barrier. I'm sure that with his new coach (Franz Klammer), a new ski-wax technician, and some off-season training in Chile he can make it happen.

After the race, he and his buddy Andris and the rest of the team celebrated at the awards banquet.
